Podcasts have been an interesting experiment in style, content and subject matter. Some focus on enthusiast culture while others are strictly about the drama. Narrative podcasts quickly sprung up and horror became one of the defining genres with audio plays like We’re Alive and faux-radio like Welcome to Nightvale leading the charge. One of the up-and-coming trends in podcasts is the tru-crime narrative in the style of Serial, Except instead of dealing with real world crimes, podcasters are applying the Serial style of storytelling to urban myths, creepypasta, ghost stories and cryptids. Whether it’s the mysteries of Limetown, the secrets of The Black Tapes or others, the new popular trends in podcasts is Mulder and Scully by way of Sara Koenig and Slenderman.
So what are some of your favorite new podcasts in this genre? Is there any particular urban myth or creepypasta you’d like to see hear in one of your favorite weekly audio dramas? Share your thoughts and recommendations in the comments.
