It’s Wednesday, which means it’s time for the Doc to lock his office, make some popcorn and fire up his home theater for some bootleg original edition Star Wars DVDs. Meanwhile, the NerdLove interns and residents take over the comments thread for their own nefarious purposes!
This week’s suggested topic: It’s looking to be a big year for sci fi and fantasy. The Hugos have given the first award to a Chinese author with a win for The Three Body Problem. Superheroes aren’t only dominating at the movies, they’re starting to crop up even in pro-wrestling with the Arrow taking down Stardust at Summer Slam. Star Wars isn’t just returning with a new trilogy, but it’s getting it’s own sections at Walt Disney World and Disneyland. Zombies, archers and speedsters are only weeks away from dominating television again. So let’s talk a little about sci fi. Do you prefer space opera? Old school hard SF? Pulpy rockets and lasers and space explorers? Cyberpunk dystopias or computer thrillers? Share your favorites in the comments section.
