If you’re reading this, the odds are good that you’ve wandered here from the various places I’ve been dispensing advice and/or rants and rage over the modern dating scene. So, welcome! For those of you who don’t, I am Dr. NerdLove*, your humble host and self-proclamed love and advice guru, and if I have one pet-peeve it would be all the ways that my fellow nerd brethren manage to utterly screw themselves when it comes to love, sex and dating.
This started originally as a joke on the podcast The League of Extremely Ordinary Gentlemen, hosted by Spill.com; in celebration of Valentine’s Day and the release of Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World, the mighty Leaguer’s decided to have the episode be about love’s trials and tribulations. Since I’d developed something of a reputation of a man-about-town and had been known to hold forth at the drop of a hat on the trials and tribulations of modern love, Cyrus and Leon challenged me to put my money where my mouth was. Perhaps foolishly, we invited our listeners – a merry band of misfits, geeks, nerds, weirdos and neo-maxi-zoom-dweebies if ever there was one – to write in with their problems.
And oh boy, did they ever.
Since we couldn’t get to all of the questions right then and there, I started a thread in the League Lounge to make sure that nobody was left out. And it proceeded to spiral out out of control as the floodgates opened and geeks, desperate to know the secret to life, the universe and everything began to beg and plead for advice.
Over the course of months, I started to recognize certain trends in their questions and patterns of behavior. Since answering each person individually would be ultimately slow and inefficient, I’ve decided to throw my advice out to the wild web.
Plus, I’m a hideous egotist who loves nothing more than to pontificate at any available opportunity.
But I digress…
So welcome one and all. Hopefully I will be able to provide you with some help and advice in a world that is, admittedly confusing and frequently contradictory. And on occasion, perhaps it might even prove useful. Sit back. Relax. Enjoy the ride. It’s not nearly as difficult as you’d think.
*Dr. NerdLove is not a real doctor.
