It’s Wednesday, which means it’s time for the Doc to slip down to the basement where he houses his personal movie theater. Meanwhile the NerdLove interns and residents take over the comments section for their own nefarious purposes!
This week’s suggested topic:
Paul Feig’s reboot of Ghostbusters comes out this week which actually brings up a question that is hotly debated amongst movie nerds: what’s the best year for movies?1 Inspired by the current theme of One Junky Summer by my friends at Junkfood Cinema, the question of “what was the best year for movies” is an eternal one. Many would say that it’s 1982, anchored by classics like Tron, E.T., Poltergeist, The Thing, Conan The Barbarian, The Secret of NIMH and The Last Unicorn.
Others suggest it’s 1984, on the strength of Ghostbusters, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Gremlins, The Neverending Story and This Is Spinal Tap. Still others suggest 1989 with The Little Mermaid, The Abyss, Dead Poet’s Society, Batman, Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure, Field of Dreams and Roadhouse.
What do you think? What’s the best year for movies? Be sure to defend your choices in the comments below. You know the rules: no hate, no spam, no trolling. Have fun!
