Who Is Harris O’Malley?
Harris O’Malley is an internationally recognized author, advice columnist and dating coach, who’s syndicated column Ask Dr. NerdLove is featured in papers around the United States. He has written for the Washington Post, the Huffington Post, Kotaku, Lifehacker, Think Progress, the Good Men Project, the Daily Dot, and many others.
After a harrowing break-up and losing another girl to one of his oldest friends, he began his years-long adventure, including exploring the Pick-Up Artist community, learning how to become a lady’s man. After systematically transforming himself into one of the best pick-up artists in Austin, he lived a life of hedonism to the fullest.
Following a long dark night of the soul, Harris realized just how much he had changed… and not for the better. Recognizing how toxic the lessons he had learned from the PUA community were, he set out to create a system of masculine social self-improvement that allowed men to connect honestly with women, without relying on the unhealthy beliefs and manipulative tricks from the Pick-Up community.
In 2009, he joined The League of Extremely Ordinary Gentlemen, the long-running geek-interest podcast hosted by Spill.com. Already known for his romantic adventures and for helping others with their dating problems, Harris created the persona of Dr. NerdLove and answered fan-submitted relationship questions during an episode celebrating the release of Scott Pilgrim Versus The World. Dr. NerdLove made a return during the Valentine’s Day 2011 episode, and started the popular blog Paging Dr. NerdLove to answer questions that he did not have time to respond to during the podcast.
Things, as they say, took on a life of their own from there.
Harris and his work have also been featured on or in Nightline, Vice, Fusion TV, Geek and Sundry, MTV’s Guy Code, New York Magazine, the Wall Street Journal, The Love Gap by Jenna Birch, How To Be Yourself by Ellen Hendricksen, Asking For A Friend by Jessica Weisberg, Raw Story, Slate, Wired, Boing Boing, the sex blog TinyNibbles.com, Reddit, the Mary Sue, the Harvard Business Journal blog and ThinkProgress.org. He has also been invited to speak at Nerd Nite, various genre conventions and gatherings such as Emerald City Comic Con, Project A-Kon, CONVergence and AggieCon. He has also been nominated for a Podcast Award for Best Mature Podcast and has been named one of the top 10 geek dating blogs by DatingAdvice.com.
